How We Work With Your Team
Specialized technical depth for demanding engineering assignments.
01. BUILD ON EXISTING WORK
Review your team's data, observations, design basis, and technical questions before defining additional investigative work.
Pierson Enterprises LLC is led by John Pierson, P.E., F.ASCE. His career spans applied research, treatment technology development, system performance evaluation, and environmental engineering. Before establishing his consulting practice, John served as a Principal Research Engineer at the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI).
02. INVESTIGATE UNCERTAINTIES
Apply engineering analysis, modeling, laboratory testing, or onsite evaluation to distinguish among possible explanations.
His work has involved physical, chemical, biological, and tertiary treatment processes across water, wastewater, and stormwater applications. Projects range from laboratory investigations and pilot studies to field evaluation and engineering implementation.
03. DEFENSIBLE CONCLUSIONS
Connect findings to traceable evidence, calculations, and stated assumptions for seamless team integration.
Today, Pierson Enterprises LLC supports engineering and consulting firms when a project calls for deeper technical investigation or a defensible characterization of system behavior. We collaborate with the existing project team, build on the existing information, and focus additional analysis or testing on the questions that matter to the assignment.
04. SUPPORT RELATIONSHIPS
Work collaboratively within the agreed project scope, with clear responsibilities, communication, and deliverables.
WHAT WE DO
Specialized Engineering Support and Design
When a project requires deeper technical investigation, Pierson Enterprises LLC works with your team to develop the analysis, evidence, and engineering documentation needed to move forward.
DIAGNOSTICS & TOXICITY
ESTABLISHING THE TECHNICAL BASIS
System Diagnostics, Troubleshooting & Wastewater Toxicity
Engineering Characterization, Validation & Verification
Investigate water, wastewater, and stormwater treatment systems when operating data or water quality results do not support an obvious explanation. Focus areas include biological treatment inhibition and Whole Effluent Toxicity (WET) testing failures.
Develop a defensible technical characterization of a treatment process, technology, or operating condition. Work includes defining governing relationships, establishing measurable performance criteria, and conducting validation.
Typical engagement: Your team needs additional technical support to interpret complex operational data, distinguish among potential causes, and determine a defensible next step.
Typical engagement: Your firm needs to establish what a system does, why it behaves as observed, and what the evidence supports before recommending a design or operational change.
DOCUMENTATION & PERMITTING
DECENTRALIZED SYSTEMS
Technical Documentation & Permitting Support
Onsite & Decentralized Wastewater Engineering
Translate engineering investigations into clear, traceable documentation for project teams, owners, and regulatory review. Deliverables include technical memoranda, reports, supporting calculations, and permit-related analyses.
Provide specialized engineering support for onsite and decentralized wastewater treatment systems, including site and soil conditions, wastewater characteristics, treatment requirements, design, and permitting.
Typical engagement: Your team needs a documented technical basis for a recommendation, design decision, regulatory discussion, permit application, or proposed permit modification.
Typical engagement: Your project requires specialized technical support for a decentralized wastewater application, or an owner needs direct assistance with design and permitting.
HOW WE APPROACH THE WORK
The technical methods behind a defensible engineering decision.
Water Quality & Process Analysis
Laboratory & Field Investigation
Treatment-Process Fundamentals
Technology Evaluation and Scale-Up
Interpret water quality, process, and effluent operating data using engineering calculations and modeling methods to assess limitations and guide testing.
Develop targeted testing approaches, review procedures and test results, and connect laboratory observations to core project engineering questions.
Evaluate physical, chemical, biological, and tertiary treatment processes, including operating constraints & performance implications.
Examine treatment technologies using performance criteria, pilot data, field observations, and fundamental engineering relationships.
Is a technical question holding up your project? Tell us what your team is encountering, what you've already investigated, and what is preventing you from moving forward. We can discuss an appropriate next step.

SELECTED WORK
Technical investigations applied to real projects.
These examples illustrate how engineering analysis, testing, field evaluation, and technical documentation support decisions across water and wastewater applications.
INDUSTRIAL & MUNICIPAL
WATER TREATMENT TECHNOLOGY
Treatment-System Performance Investigation
Disinfection Technology Verification & Permitting
Evaluated industrial wastewater characteristics and impacts on a municipal treatment facility. Reviewed flow and quality data, examined treatment capacities, and analyzed the impacts of recalcitrant disinfection chemistries, including their effects on WET results.
Performed engineering evaluation of an onsite hypochlorite disinfection technology, developed and sealed supporting technical documentation for a water treatment permit application in Wyoming.
DECENTRALIZED WASTEWATER
BIOLOGICAL TREATMENT
Onsite Wastewater Design & Permitting
Treatability Data & Process Modeling
Developed onsite wastewater engineering and UIC permitting work for a development in Alabama, evaluating site conditions alongside treatment and disposal requirements.
Developed training on translating data into kinetic and biomass yield parameters for BioWin software modeling. Examine phenol inhibition and clarifier settling parameters. Similar evaluations using USGS PHREEQC for mining wastes.
GET IN TOUCH
Let's discuss your technical assignment.
Please provide a general description of what your project team is working to understand, what information is available, and what decision or deliverable the investigation needs to support. An initial conversation can help establish the technical question and determine an appropriate first step.
Do not submit confidential client information, proprietary technical data, or sensitive facility information through this form. You can discuss arrangements for exchanging project documents separately.
